I have a 1080p video I want to replace a short part in. The source for the splice is slightly lower resolution. I want to cut the splice out then scale it up and make every parameter of it the same so it can be spliced into the 1080P stream without having to reencode the whole thing. The length will stay the same so nothing has to be done to the audio.

Cut it into three parts; the part before the splice, the part that's to be replaced, and the part after the splice. Replace the old part with the new part and join them all together.

Being able to do all this depends at least partly on the video codec used. More information will be helpful. For the spliced part, resolution, codec and framerate have to all be the same as the rest. I can't think of anything else offhand.Last edited by manono; 8th Mar 2018 at 23:16.

That's the thing, I want to know how to get all the properties of the 1080p video and apply them to the clip to be upscaled. Looks like I'll have to reencode anyway because where I want to make the cuts aren't on keyframes.

You get the properties from MediaInfo. Yes, you'll have to reencode the part to be inserted. As for not cutting on keyframes, some programs allow for that and only reencode between the cut and the previous or next keyframe. So almost all the the original parts you're planning to keep won't be reencoded.

Again, though, more information about the original video is needed to provide more specific and informed help.

The cut points you are talking about may not be on key frames (let’s assume they aren’t).
The splice points manono is talking about need not be the same as your cut points and his method would work best for you if those splice points encompass MORE than the cut area - only enough more to get to the nearest key frame boundary.
That way only the clip in question plus a few extra frames are reencoded.

What editing software can do this without completely reencoding the whole thing?
-
Download the trial version of TMPGenc Smart Renderer.
Load in your main clip and mark the end as the point you want to make the splice
 Load in you splice segment.
Load in your main clip again and mark the start as the point you want to resume.

Make sure you choose the option to output as a single clip (Connect Clips Into One.) It will match the parameters automatically.

 VideoRedo will work as well.

You should be able to do this within the trial period.
