S-Video or Composite from SCART?

I have a Scart adapter that provides 2 x audio, 1 x Composite and 1 x S-Video outputs (inputs if you switch). Is the S-video outlet a 'true' S-Video quality outlet if the VCR is not S-VHS?

I am currently using the composite output but before I go and buy an s-video cable I want to find out if I would be wasting my time and money if the VCR is not S-VHS.

No, in most cases there is no S-VHS-signal if you don't have a S-VHS-recorder. Makes no sense, because the signal quality would be the same. Look at the manual to see if there is a possibility to switch between FBAS and YC, because the S-VHS-signal uses the same pin (and one more) on the SCART as FBAS. You cannot have both signals simultaneously.

I guessed that was the case. but it'sgood to have it confirmed. The composite picture seems pretty good anyway.
