    Hi

I recently purchased a sony bdp s6500 - great player.

But I took it to the uk (as I work there several months a year), but could not access UK apps.

I want to keep my US region setting, so I can play my DVD's and Blurays from here when I am over there. But I would like to be able to watch UK catchup TV when I am there.

Is there a way to install iPlayer, or to tell my system it is in the UK?

I had assumed when I plugged it into a UK network it would pick up UK apps - but this is not the case.

Is there a hidden menu I can change my location on?

    All help grateful accepted

(I have been doing google searches all night - can't seem to find this info)

    Thanx

Can't you download/add any apps from the blu-ray player menu?

Or else just get a Chromecast and you can stream anything from your computer, android or ios to your TV. Much easier than playing around with a blu-ray player....

You could not change your Region Coding any way. You have a Sony

I guess that 'APPs' are stored in firmware. Try changing that for a US machine in the UK and you might brick it

    Don't you have a laptop ?

the only apps I can see are the US ones. - So can't download BBC iPlayer.

I do have a laptop and a chromecast, but it would be nice to just have a single media player that does what I need - kinda why I bought this device.

When I said 'stored' I really meant 'built-in'. Nothing to download. BBC I-player is generally available (for UK isp's) from the BBC Website.

Would not be available elsewhere since it is UK licence-fee holders that pay for it. So it follows that I-player would only be available for a UK-targeted player. Guess that Sony pays the BBC for that privilege.

I just checked and the UK version of your player does indeed have I-player and the other usual suspects.

Sony typically doesn't use a model in multiple regions. Copyrights are different in various regions. And supporting the same player in multiple regions is what makes them hackable.

Get another player or just a simple media player. Either option is fairly cheap and you won't be doing anything that could brick the player.
