why would you use Nero to encode?

    ipfreelyhere,
First off if you not getting any sound after encoding with TMPGEnc chances are you’re missing some codecs. I suggest downloading and installing the Nimo Codec Pack (you can find it listed in the tools section). The second thing you might want to consider is quality. Nero generally does a bad job of encoding vs. TMPGEnc. TMPGEnc might take longer to encode (I can't verify this since I haven't done a test compared to Nero), but the final result will be of higher quality and I would assume this is what factors into the encoding times. Also TMPEnc gives you greater control over such things as aspect ratio, frame rate, and bit rate if you unlock the template. More often than not just following the wizard supplied with TMPGEnc will give you satisfactory results. With Nero it's just drag, drop and convert, but no control over any of the other factors. Most avi's have been cropped and when converted thru Nero it will encode to a 4:3 aspect ratio regardless of the input file aspect ratio. If I'm wrong on this someone else please point it out. So I guess it depends on what your after, quality or speed.
    Warning! I'm baaaaaaaaack
