    hi i use nero 7 the latest to convert films but on some of the films if you play them through nero showtime they are out of sync and if you convert them with nero they also come out of sync
    but if you use tmpgenc they come out in sync
    any help much appreciated?

    Nero isn't a very good encoder, it often has sync problems, especially if the source has VBR MP3 audio, but often even if it doesn't. Personally I wouldn't use it for encoding at all, and would even question it's use for anything else when better tools abound for free.

    Because you have put this under Authoring, I'll assume you are converting avi files to DVD, in which case should also consider

    ConvertXtoDVD (not free, but more reliable than Nero)
    DVD Flick (Free)
    FAVC (Free) - both of these use much better encoders than ConvertXtoDVD or Nero, however it comes at the cost of speed.
