  1. I captured from my DV camera, and converted to SVCD via Premiere....the resulting file almost looks like slow motion on my standalone VCD/SVCD/DVD player, and fuzzy, not crisp like the original.

Is this solely because SVCD only has about a third of the kbsec as DVD/DV ? That would explain it, unless there are suggestions out there..I even used TMPGENC, same deal..

One more thing, XVCD-related...I have a 28 minute AVI that I am trying to XVCD. Bitrate Calc says that avg bitrate can be 3706 if my audio is 160...However, TMPGENC XVCD help on this site reads that bitrate for XVCD should not go over 2500 for it is too much for the player to decode...which do I go with; the TMPGENC recommendation or the seemingly high Bitrate Calc?

    Thanks

The only reasonI can think of, that would cause a slowdown, is if your frame rate is wrong. It should be 25 fps for pal, or 29.7 fps ntsc ( 23 fps film).

I've got a simular problem with a video that was encoded at 19 fps (don't ask me why..I dunno why someone would do such a thing). When played, it runs in slow motion.

As far as bitrate is concerned, if your making an XVCD, or xSVCD, your bitrate can go up to the DVD max I should think, which is 9.8Mb/sec (can someone verify?). Anything more, and your standalone probably wouldn't be able to process it, since it's designed with the DVD standard in mind.
