As neither VirtualDub nor VirtualDubMod support natively MKV files, but they have to be integrated by plugins and so on (thing rather bothering, at any rate IMHO), is there a similar software that can reading MKV's without problems?
Most importantly, it's necessary that it has, as VD and VDM, the key frames capture feature, so that I can capture perfect screenshots, not blurred therefore.![]()

You could try AVIDemux as it's similar to VD. Also, when you say 'MKV', that's only a generic container name and gives no information on the audio and video codecs used in the container. That can make a big difference with compatibility. But I'll assume you mean H.264 video and probably AAC or AC3 audio.
And welcome to our forums. -
vdub has a mkv import plugin, or you can use the ffinput driver, or directshow import plugin

Oh sorry, I didn't think about it... but yes, I mean exactly what you said. And thanks for the software, I'll try it.
Did you read my OP?
I already know that VirtualDub supports MKV files, but not natively. I wrote it quite clearly in OP.
I'm seeking a software whom with I can work with MKV's without installing "extra stuff". Got it now? -
First, drop the attitude, bitch. You're new here. Act nice if you want help. Second, English is clearly not your first language. It is mine but I have no idea what you mean when you say you want software that "can reading MKV's without problems". "Reading" is not correct in English in your sentence, nor is the use of 's in MKV's. Normally I would just ignore that since you're not a native speaker, but you just had to cop an attitude AND your post is unclear. So I'm not going to bother any more with you but if you want to clarify whatever you tried and failed to mean by saying "reading" then try again and maybe someone else will put up with your crap long enough to help you. -
What's wrong with my attitude? Did I write something offensive? I don't think so. You instead, TONE DOWN! I don't think you're a MOD or a SuperMOD or an Admin who can afford to use some "particular" words, you're just an idiot.
That said, I've already admitted that my "MKV files" wasn't so clear, but fortunately there are people like redwudz who try to help, and not writing bullshit.
Ah, one more and last thing (Jobs docet): your post is totally useless. -
No problem - I just misinterpreted what you wrote. I thought you meant plugins as in "filters" in the sense that you wanted a program that had filters you could apply like levels, brightness, contrast etc....
But the screenshots they capture will be off for HD content - vdub uses Rec.601 for the conversion to RGB, and avidemux uses completely different matrix - so the colors are slightly skewed (really off for avidemux) . It should use Rec.709 for HD content -
I read this post and caught the last part ... "Got it now ? ......... that also bothered me too.
All you have to do is read what you type and think before hitting the ... Submit Reply ... button.
That ... Got it now ? ... comment ... did not really need to be the words used to help someone catch your drift.
We try to help people here with their video editing problems ... I benefited from reading this post ... I found something to add to my "plugins32" and my "plugins64" ... folder inside my Virtualdub folder.

Now ... if you want a program that works with MKV videos ... try ... TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5.0.6.38 ... I use it all the time.
If it is having difficulties reading the DTS audio in the MKV video ... then convert it to AC3
The program I use to convert from the DTS audio in a MKV video to AC3 is ... PopCorn MKV AudioConverter ... I've used it 3 times and works great.
TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5.0.6.38 ... when loading a MKV video ... will display in the editing window ... all 6 channels of a - 6 Channel AC3 audio stream. Lovely ...
Really pisses me off ... when I see that the LFE channel is empty with no signal ... but all the other 5 channels are jumping up and down in a wild scene from an action movie. -
