A "D.I.Y." 8.1 speaker set, plus a pair of "bass-friendly" headphones.

I feed to a Technics receiver to a pair of Sony speakers. I have a cassette deck & turntable connected so I can record from anything. I have a large collection of both & am slowly converting everything to digital. I'm amazed at how good the conversions sound. I also feed SVHS to computer through a Hauppauge Win-TV HR-1250 video card with mostly things not availble on DVD.

Just a cheapo 2.1 set of speakers, really aren't anything special. Then again, I don't do anything with the PC that requires any special audio. Anything worthwhile audio or video is done in the living room. Not sure if I need/want to setup the PC as an HTPC to the receiver for anything.
Have a good one,
neomaine

A basic 2.1 system I bought in Fry's Electronics about 5 years ago. Good enough for
my PC audio needs. -
Some years ago I found at a local supermarket a pair of inexpensive 2.0 speakers on sale. The price was Ok and they are Altec Lansing, so I figured they´sound a bit better than the average no name PC speaker of equivalent size. I can´t say they are great but I like the way they sound (my only regret is no having purchased the 2.1 version of the same speakers but I saw that days after I had bought them), anyway they are adequate for the needs of this PC (web surfing, skype conversations, ocassional music listening at low volume while on line, etc...no multichannel games, no movies)
For the PC where I do my audio and video editing I have a pair of Sony SS-MB150H bookshelf units placed as near-field monitors and an old 35 watt per channel (RMS) integrated amplifier to drive them, they suit my need there just fine.
And a 6.1 system for movies in the living room but there´s no computer there. -
M-Audio AV 30 speakers most of the time; when I am editing I use Sennheiser headphones, since they much less forgiving.

Yes it does still sound great - to my vintage ears
Also have Dynaco PAS3 + Stereo 60 with a pair of Advent speakers plus a Thorens TD124 with Grado walnut tone arm - now I'm really dated.Andrew Jackson: "It's a poor mind that can only think of one way to spell a word." -
I suspect many of us are using good ol' gear from the seventies. Perhaps we need a "how old is your stereo" survey.

2.1 on the big rig (1980's Sony power amp/subwoofer and a pair of Altec indoor outdoor tiny two ways) and the TV speakers on the little rig (Acer Revo hooked up to our 47" tv in the living room).

My main PC is in the garage ... I'm here now ... Pioneer VSX 815 Receiver ... AR 48S speakers on the floor under my work table and a pair of Boston Acoustics on the work table to my front left and right and a AR center channel from a AR PL 100 speaker system and a AR powered 8" subwoofer also under my work table. The surround speakers are AR 28S.
The HTPC in my bedroom has the AR PL 100 Speakers [5.1] and two Design Acoustic Passive 10" Subwoofers on each side of the HDTV. Plus a Jensen Powered 10" subwoofer ... it's the one that makes the farting sound ... and a Pioneer VSX 90 Elite Receiver.
I have wanted to make it a 7.1 sound system but my wife is saying ... NO ... it's loud enuff already ... he he
The sound card in both systems is the HTO Striker 7.1 ... I'm using the optical output for Dolby Digital or DTS sound.Last edited by lacywest; 8th Oct 2012 at 04:13.

Various reference grade and near-reference speakers.
If it costs less than $100, and has more than 2.1, I don't use them.

Two garage sale speakers, the best $5 I've ever spent. Too bad they didn't come with a subwoofer, as I can sometimes tell that there's supposed to be more bass. However, they still seem to go pretty low.

I have my computer and my other video equipment hooked up through a receiver to make it easy to switch between sources. It's a pretty nice Sony setup.
