  1. I'm interested in buy some speakers for our living room TV. My current speaker setup is a 10 year old Creative Sound 5.1ch system that was hooked up to my computer. That went to the TV when I started playing games too loud for neighbors in the morning hours.

It's not a bad system but I don't have the remote (Pain in the ass when you are comfy on the couch and it isn't loud enough) and I'm not sure it's always sounding right.

So what are my choices. I'm going to presume my wife doesn't think we need speaker so a budget within the 500 dollar or less range would be great. It's mostly for movies that I'm interested in having my mind blown away...although the PS3 collecting dust is definitely pulling my arm to come back and play.

    Any good suggestions?

Whatever's on sale at the local store?

Being in Japan really changes the conversation. Products there are different.
You're literally in an electronics Candyland.
I'd love to visit there someday, and simply spend time going store to store.

Yeah but that it'd be hard to do. How much could you take back with you? Not to mention you'd be tempted to buy everything in sight. Only to realize you don't read Japanese (I'm assuming) and couldn't use half the stuff you bought. Plus who knows about internet services and whether they'd work on our systems here. I'm sure the 3g/4g wouldn't be exactly the same.

To the original poster - just get something in your price range. Anything should be decent. Though I'd check to make sure it is "3d compatible" if you want to 3d someday - as for the hdmi passthrough issue that is.

Make sure its got plenty of hdmi inputs so you're not limited. Even if you only have a ps3 you never know. If you have a dvr with a hdmi there is at least one other input you'll need.
