Is there a way to check 5.1 mix is genuine rather than upmix?

As the title really, if I have a recording from TV with a 5.1 audio stream is there a way to test it's a true 5.1 mix rather than a stereo upmix? Bear in mind I don't have a 5.1 speaker system to listen back.

Easiest way to do that would be to use something like besweet or similar programs, and have it dissect (convert/demux) the 5.1 audio to 6 wave streams. You would then play each wave and if they are all the same you know it is a BS 5.1 crap mix

you would also need to first demux the audio from your (assuming) dvd with something like pgcdemux

They're mostly HDTV caps so I've already demxued the AC3 files from the streams, yeah. So if it's a upmix the individual streams would be the same?

I guess the best thing to do is make an upmix of something myself and see what I'm looking for.

I would also recommend looking at a variety of authentic 5.1 files, there is a surprising amount of variation. Check your L-R surrounds against your L-R fronts while being mindful of the volume difference.

Most ac-3 from broadcast TV that I checked were actually 2.0 stereo, very few were actual 5.1.
