[Problem Solved, thanks for your help everyone!]
Hello I am new and sadly I am in a desperate hurry to fix this problem.
Alright so I used a combination VHS to DVD machine to take VHS tapes and convert them to DVDs.
In the process of that the machine's instructions called the process "dubbing".
I was capable of playing the DVD on the machine without any problems.
My problem now lies in copying that DVD. The text on the disk itself reads: DVD+R 16x 4.7 GB 120Min
When I insert the DVD into my disk drive none of the video or any data for that matter is recognized apart from the fact that the "properties" of the disk drives says that there is no free space on the disk.
Nero fails to recognize anything on the DVD.
DVD Decrypter fails to recognize anything on the DVD.
Some program called Digital Media Home by a company named Sonic managed to save what it referred to as "images" of the DVD. However attempts at burning these "images" to another DVD (DVD+RDL 8x 8.5 Gb 240 min & DVD+R 16x 4.7 GB 120 Min) failed in an error message.
Please advise. Ideally I would like to save the video from the DVD and make copies using the one DVD burner that my computer has. It is a home-made DVD and is not copyright-protected or anything.

Look at the the files in Windows Explorer. What files/folders do you see ?

Clearly not so much 'in a hurry' as to come back here and answer the questions raised.
1. You did not finalise the disk - although I thought that DVD+R disks auto-finalised ?
2. You 'dubbed' in VR mode and not Video mode which would go a long way to explain why Nero or DVD Decrypter can not see anything.
3. You can not image a 4.7 disk on to a 8.5 disk.
So:
1. Check your recorder settings and be sure that you are using Video Mode - that is the compatable mode for any player.
2. Make sure that you finalise (if neccessary) your disk - check your manual.
3. Use imgburn to create a copy(read mode) and burn that ON A SAME SIZE DISK(write mode) -
I'm sorry that I was rude and demanding. You guys are trying to help people and you don't need jerks like me venting their frustration on you. Truth is I was tired and mad at myself for not getting this thing done quickly and I let it out on you guys. It turns out that I did need to just finalize the disk and now everything is fine. Thank you guys for your help in spite of my behavior, I am very sorry I was so rude.

Just in case if you are still venting steam and you are still having problems...forget using DVD Decrypter for ripping DVDs recorded on a standalone machine. Some standalone DVD recorders have a glitch at allowing playback on computer programs. I've had this problem before even though the DVD is finalized. You can use DVDFAB 8 or DVD shrink 3.2 to rip DVDs that have been recorded on DVD Recorders. The problem with some machines is the firmware and or the menu screen in the finalizing process that will only allow playback with certain machines and or play through software players on computers. Using DVDFAB 8 will work to rip it and then you can use NERO Recode for burning. The problem should be corrected.

You spewing BULLSHIT information is the problem.
DVDDecrypter is THE ripper to use on DVD recorder discs since DVDShrink usually cannot handle DVD recorder discs that contain more than one title. The last version of DVDShrink could handle a couple of titles from most recorders...but throw a disc in there with more than 3 titles from a crap recorder like a Cyberhome and it will choke every time.
DVDDecrypter, even with it being old and outdated....is a better choice to burn DVDs than Nero since Nero is bloated payware that does everything from burn DVDs incorrectly to wiping your ass for you.
DVDFab is payware. DVDFabDecrypter is the free portion within DVDFab(or the DVDFab "family"). Since the majority of the rippers you mentioned are freeware, did you incorrectly say DVDFab 8 instead of DVDFabDecrypter? My guess is yes you were incorrect....or WRONG.
Got any more brainiac?
