Toast accepts any AVI file that QuickTime Player also accepts. That is, Toast hooks into QuickTime architecture for decoding AVIs.
A few crashing problems with Toast can be linked to its Preferences files. Try trashing the Toast plist and prefs files in your User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunch Toast to see if this fixes the problem.Last edited by Case; 10th Dec 2010 at 07:35.

I second MacDSL...if it crashes Quicktime, then either your .avi file is bad, or
your in need of some serious downtime using Disc Utility to clean up
and diagnose the state of your Hard Drive. If a known good .avi file
that you have played in the past also crashes Toast or Quicktime Player,
I would seriously then look at cleaning up your Hard Drive, first with Disc Utility,
then second look into how much Free Space you have on the disc.
the fact that the .plist file for Toast didn't regenerate points to a problem with the Hard Drive.
Once Toast was relaunched, that .plist should have regenerated."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."
