  1. Hi,

I'm after a low-to-mid-range 5.1 speaker system. Anyone had any experience with http://ubuyhardware.com/p~p-1961953588~b-11560000~Klipsch-HD300-51-Channel-Home-Theate...er-System.aspx ? I can't really stretch much beyond the price of that one; is there anything around the same price that's better?

    Thanks in advance!

No experience with that particular setup, but Klipsch has been a good name with audiophiles. It's probably more suitable to a small room as the sub appears to be a 6.5" one. The stereo and surrounds are about 6" X 4" X 4" cabinet size, so don't expect big sound. It doesn't come with speaker cables, but a trip to a hardware store for some zip cable is no big deal.

One of our members may be more familiar with the speakers.

    And welcome to our forums.

    Try this review:http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/tests-reviews/speakers/2009/09/klipsch-hd-theater-300
S&VM is pretty reputable, and the review sounds quite informed and objective.

Bottom line, not too bad for the price as long as you don't try to max out the SPL.

Notice, with that offer, you're ONLY getting the speakers, NOT the reciever. If you don't already have a good HT reciever, you'll have to budget that in as well.

I like the Synergy series. The sound response is flat through the full range. Seventy-five (85 maximum) watts per channel can fill a 24' x 18' room. They list at $350 new for a pair, but can be easily found for $150 used. You will need matching center ($150) and surrounds ($125). With good speakers like these and a fine receiver like the Yamaha HTR-6240, a sub-woofer for the bottom octave-and-a-half is optional. These bookshelf speakers weigh about eleven pounds each. You may need large ball-joint mounts to place these speakers where there is no shelf.

This is just an example auction. I would purchase only from an experienced dealer with a hundred speaker sale transactions.
