  1. I am using a PAL VCR and I have the ATI TV Wonder HD 750. The video and audio input is going through the composite(and AUX) to S-video adapter and then plugged into the cards s-video port.

I can get audio with the program that the card came with but when I try to change the regional settings for the input the program always locks up on me or just doesn't save the change.

I've tried numerous free programs but none seem to have the support I need. I am willing to buy a program if that is what is takes but I would like to keep the costs to $50 or less.

Can anyone suggest an alternative program to capture the audio and video?

Also I would like to add that I accidentally bought the ATI TV Wonder HD 600 PCI Digital & analog TV tuner, which I've had better luck capturing video, but it has no PAL support so the video is horrible. BUT this card is still at my disposal and if I could use this instead I would be able to return the HD 750(which seems like a lesser product anyways...)

  2. Thank you soo much for your help! I was able to finally get it working properly. You made my girlfriends family very happy, they haven't been able to watch their home videos for over 10 years since they had to flee Bosnia. This will make their year!

    Yes it does.
PAL capture from ATI 600 card here: http://www.digitalFAQ.com/forum/showthread.php/vhs-capture-device-2300.html?p=12251#post12251

There's just not big obvious "capture PAL" button. VirtualDub required, setting all manual.

  5. So now my problem is, I have these segmented AVI files. I need to first open the segmented .avi files and save them so they are one file.

But the file is far too large for a DVD, how should I go about compressing the file? It doesn't need to be HD or anything but these are home movies, the quality should be at least half way decent.

    Any help?

Avidemux can compress in many formats. To play in regular DVD Players mpeg2 encoding is required and DVD authoring. See tools section o this site.

  7. I guess my last question is... is there anyway to make adjoining the segmented .avi files easier? Do I even have to join them together? Is it possible to capture and save as one file greater than 2gigs? This part of the process seems almost redundant and takes a decent chunk of time with a 20gig file.

Am I just looking at it wrong, are theses segmented files actually considered one AVI? When I go to open the first one it opens all of them as one AVI.

With Avidemux or VirtualDub open the first part and then append the other parts.

I'm plan to buy a Diamond ATI TV Wonder HD 750 USB device.
I'm living in PAL country, but I have NTSC tapes too.
My JVC HR-S7600 VCR playing back NTSC tapes in PAL-60.

My question is: The HD 750 is able to capture the PAL-60 signal too?

Unless someone here owns one, and has confirmed it can do PAL60, you may never know.
My Hauppauge USB LIVE2 can do PAL60 but PAL60 is NOT listed on any documentation....AND my
Hauppauge only captures PAL60 with a special version of WinTV 7.
