I cannot get virtualdub 1.9.9 to see the video from an Diamond ATI Tv Wonder 750 USB. I know the video is reaching the pc because the Total Media 3.5 package that came with the USB stick shows me both tv and s-video content. In virtualdub, under 'Device' the ATI Analog Capture hardware is shown as a choice and is selected. Under 'Source', s-video is shown and selected.
The only thing that I get in the preview window is a green screen.

I have downloaded the most recent driver from the Diamond website.

Can anyone offer any helpful hints ?

BTW : This is a Vista 32 bit pc.

  2. Try disabling DirectX video output in VirtualDub. Options -> Preferences -> Display...

Well, now I have a black screen, but still no video. Before I could change the option setting in virtualdub for disabling directx, the ATI capture device was lost as an option under devices, so I had to uninstall and reinstall the ATI drivers and software several times just to get things back where they were. Doh !!

  4. I'm having the same exact problem. The USB device is working because I can see and hear the feed in the included software, but the video and audio never show up in virtualdub. Interestingly, when I try to open Sony Video Capture 6.0, this box pops up -

I've tried shutting down all other video-related programs, but the video and audio still never show up in either Virtualdub or Sony.

The 750 encodes baseband or NTSC tuner video to an MPeg file. The digital tuner demuxes the selected MPeg PID. After capture with included software, import the MPeg file to VirtualdubMod.

  6. I see that I am able to capture MPEG video with the included software, but I was hoping that I could capture uncompressed video using VirtualDub.

  7. I have a USB 650 and had better luck capturing with VirtualDub when I installed only the drivers, not the rest of the ATI software.

  8. Originally I tried only the newest drivers from the website, and I did see a static, noisy signal in VirtualDub earlier on, but nothing was attached yet to the analog inputs. I decided to let Windows Media Center setup the tuner, and after that I only saw black in VirtualDub Capture. Later on, I tried installing the included software to see what would happen - and I could confirm that the s-video and audio inputs were working with the VCR attached. So I'm thinking that all my troubles started with Windows Media Center. I've tried uninstalling drivers + software and resetting Media Center, but nothing seems to work. And unfortunately, my system has deleted earlier system restore points so I cannot try that. Perhaps I'll just try restoring the computer to original factory settings as it's a fairly new computer and it won't take me long to get back up and running. I'll only install the latest drivers from the website and won't setup the tuner in any program. Wish me luck.

Update - Restoring the system to original factory settings worked. Video capture works well, except audio is now out of sync. I'm fairly certain this is addressed in other topics here so I'm not too worried right now. The lesson I learned here is that for the ATI 750 USB device, do not set up the antenna tuner in any program. Just download and install the necessary drivers, and then only use the device in virtualdub.

  9. Glad to hear it's working now. Try playing with the audio resync fuctions in VirtualDub (Options -> Timing...). I find disabling it works best with my 650.

Pay attention at this setting for trouble-free sound:

Some delay is there on live preview but not on the final captured file. Keep in mind that this card don`t need to tweak audio resynch because audio is always linked to video. Is possible to force with virtualdub some particular resynch mode, but I don`t recommend that. Even with VHS source this card have a good lock sync.
