I may have someone who might be willing to build a computer for me in order to adequately run Premiere Pro CS5 which I'll have to upgrade to as well.

First, I'll need to get a determination/recommendations as to specifically what hardware is needed and to acquire a comprehensive component/parts list in detail with the specs.

Any suggestions as to where to purchase those parts at a reasonable cost would be valuable as well.

It would be appreciated to learn what your system configuration is and what your thoughts are as to its effectiveness and speed. I would like to know what to do, avoid or any other pertinent & helpfull information.

All tips, pointers on the web in regards to this subject are welcome as I want to do it right the first time.

Somehow I'm thinking a pre-made mail order system from the internet such as Dell is not the right path to travel.

Thanks so much as this will be a big adventure.

newegg is about as cheap as a reliable supplier gets.

    core i7
    x58 motherboard
    8 gigs ram
    GeForce GTX 285 or quadro
    4 f3 spinpoint 1tb drives

should be a starting point for you.

Can't have too much storage space. I have...

    1 - 160 GB boot drive
    1 - 500 GB capture drive
    3 - 1 TB storage drives
1 - 500 GB Temp drive that connects to the top of my case
    1 - 1 TB My Book (e-SATA, firewire, USB)
1 - external HHD enclosure (e-SATA, firewire, USB) for various HDDs
    2 - 8 GB thumbdrives

I have a CM 690 II Advanced case. I saw a couple of Lian Li cases that looked OK but went for the CM 690 II because they had it at my local Fry's Electronics and it had everything I was looking for (except no front firewire port). I would recommend any of the HAF Cooler Master cases also.

What processor in the i7 family is suitable? It doesn't have to be the absolute fastest.

    What's ideal? Acceptable? Preferable?

What strength/wattage should the case power supply be?
