Hi,
I have done this with ffmpegX several times with the VOB from a DVD. Nevertheless in two of them, it encodes in a matter of seconds and as a result I get a 0Kb.
The log says
Encoding started on Fri Feb 19 20:48:56 CET 2010
Input #0, mpeg, from '/Users/Cris/Desktop/VIDEO CRIS/VTS_01_3.VOB':
Duration: 00:24:02.8, start: 2881.282033, bitrate: 5952 kb/s
Stream #0.0: Audio: pcm_s16be, 48000 Hz, stereo, 1536 kb/s
Stream #0.1: Video: mpeg2video, 720x576, 25.00 fps
Codec type mismatch for mapping #0.0 -> #0.0
What does it mean? I am lost.

Try setting "Invert mapping" in the Audio tab.

PCM audio is valid for DVD, and it is also the audio format that e.g. iDVD will create for DVDs. Perhaps because it doesn't require a license from Dolby.
PCM audio is also sometimes used for its high quality, as it is not compressed.
