  1. I have some vob files that play fine in power DVD and VCL player but refuse to open in virtual dub/DVD2AVI... so I can't covert them. I'm thinking they're corrupt, any ideas to fix them?

  2. virtualdub doesn't natively support .vob's.

    virtualdubmod does.

  3. Nope, i still can't open it with virtual dub mod, i keep getting the error "can't detect file type". I'm thinking it's something disguised as a vob and not really a vob, how do I check? it plays fine in VCL and power DVD so there's nothing wrong with the file.

What does mediainfo say about the video and audio codec in the vob files?

    1 audio streams: MPEG-1 audio layer 2

    1st Video Stream: 352*240 at 29.970fps MPEG-2 Video

  6. The audio is MPEG-1 Layer 2; aka MP2 - i think virtualdubmod has problems with this.

Can you open it up in avidemux?

    What is your end goal?

VirtualDubMod can play MP2 audio fine. My Hauppauge capture card uses MP2 and the files open fine in both MOD and MPEG. I've had to use PVA Strumento to clean them up to use with GFD though, might work on your files (PVA, that is).
