    Hello.

I am using a JVC HR-S5980 to transfer S-VHS tapes to my computer and am having the following problem illustrated in the picture below.

I have tried with and without my AVT-8710 TBC and have the issue both ways.

I am capturing to Huffyuv using a Philips SAA713X based capture card but I don't think the capture card is the issue.

From reading other posts, people mention a "line level TBC" could fix this. What exactly is that? Do I need to get another VCR with a built-in TBC or can I get an external "line level" TBC? Will this even fix the problem?

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

"need to get another VCR with a built-in TBC"

    That's it.

Or use a Panasonic ES10/ES15 as a "passthrough" filter.

    Thanks for confirming this.

I'll try the Panasonic route first and see how it goes.

That looks great. I can't wait to get my hands on one of those and try it out.

This wiggle is very distracting when watching the video. It's a lot more noticeable when capping S-VHS tapes than VHS.

  5. You'll get much better compression with the TBC corrected video too.

    jagabo,

Do you know if the ES18 provides the same TBC goodness?

I don't know what to look for in the specs. Nothing mentions TBC:

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/620022-REG/Panasonic_DMR_ES18_DMR_ES18_Multi_Sys..._Zone_DVD.html

I'm just wondering if this is an alternative to the ES15.

None of them have TBCs inside, that is why. They do have basic frame synchronization, but it's a far cry from a full fledged TBC. The frame sync used by the specific Panasonics mentioned is what you want anyway.

I don't know about the ES18, sorry. There are some members here, however, who should.
