I noticed that most everyone is going from WMV etc TO AVI format......What I need to know is the opposite; How and what prog is suggested to take a large AVI clip off YouTube and convert it down to 'e-mailable' size? My ISP limits me to sending anything over 6 megs.
Is Videozilla a good Prog to use?
Thank You Everyone!!!![]()

Hello Baldrick and MGH
Baldrick.....I tried your suggestion of using
windows media encoder or windows movie maker, and couldn't get either one to work. Also, in my folder it shows me that the clips from YouTube are AVI's...NOT FLV's.
MGH.....I tried your suggestion of using HJSPLIT, and it did not work either. I tried sending the entire clip at a setting of 300 kbs per 'segment'....and my ISP stopped sending at almost the end of sending it. I then tried to send EACH segment SEPERATELY at 300 KBS's and they wouldn't open and play for me using VLC Player.
I'm new at this 'video editing' stuff and maybe I'm doing it wrong?
Oh...and I should maybe mention that the clip I'm trying to send is only 13 megs.
I THANK BOTH of you for your Very kind help.
Is there any other 'procedure' that you can suggest?
Again, Thank You Both sooo much for trying to help me!! -
Why not get a copy of HJSplit, free, whack the file into parts and send the parts along with HJSplit to reassemble with?
Did you read the manual? http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/#win32
HJSplit just whacks the file into parts sized to what you decide they should be. You could just make 26 x 500k pieces.
The pieces will not play until you reassemble them into one file. THJsplit does not do anything to the file to make each segment playable it just splits and reassembles. and the segments must be reassembled to be of any use.
Or go to USMail with a CD.
The other thing is use Gspot on the supposed avi's. Youtube uses flvs. If you save them with an extension of avi for example that doesn't make them an avi. Beyond that I'm not sure how you got them. -
Q: My ISP limits me to sending anything over 6 megs.
A: You mean you have only a 5mb mail box ... dont you ?
Try www.lycos.com , get a free mail account , now 3 gigs which would handle those clips .
I dont recall what the free account limits are , but you can read up on that when you get there .
The other one I use is yenc32 which is designed for uploading to newsgroups ... although you can attach the chunks it spits out to emails and send them off on their way .
Just place all the parts in one folder and yenc automatically decodes , joins them to recreate the original file .
Some info :
The yEnc format itself is a nice alternative to UUencode and Base64. yEncoded messages are up to 40% smaller than UUencoded/Base64 equivalents, and include built-in error checking and multipart file support.
http://www.yenc32.com/
Shell integration - not working (uncheck it in the installer)
Max split - 999 restricted
If sending to friends , keep a backup of all the parts is not necessary , provided you have the original clip that was split using yenc32 , just use the same chunk size as before , and resend the part required , will fix their problem .
----
Going back a while , the person I used to send too only needed to send an email when they had clean out their limited account in order for me to send the next part .
I did this once using newsgroup , the file was firstly encrypted to prevent others from grabbing it , then yenc32 did its job
Now I just give them account on my server and they can come and go when they need too . -
THANK YOU THANK YOU TBONEIT !!!!
The HGSplit worked perfectly!
Thank You EVERYONE for all your suggestions!!!
