Hi all... I recently tried using WinFF to convert my .avi files with the sound still intact, however the converted files won't transfer over to my Gigabeat for some reason. WMP11 won't allow it saying that it can't convert between quality differences.

And Windows Media Converter just crashes on me every single time I start encoding? So Wha tdo I do in order to convert the .avi and keep the sound in sync?

*edit* Also, I've tried AutoMK and it converts and can transfer over, however the sound is like 3 seconds behind....

Any faster alternative? So far from what I've tried it can only convert using a certain profile and it takes forever (this is for WMM, trying Super now)

A combination of AviSynth and Nic's WMEnc.

Okay, Super works fine and the audio works as well. However, now I can't get WMP11 to "convert" the .wmv file so it can transfer it over to my gigabeat... it says that it can't convert between different quality levels?

Okay, another update. I can now get WMP11 to convert and transfer over the files successfully now however the PMC (Portable Media Center) still says when I try to play the files that they need to be converted???

From what I know the PMC requirements are almost exact to the Zune stuff... But EVERYTHING I've tried hasn't worked?!?!?! this is extremely frustrating. I've even played around with all the programs in this thread

And now I've gotten to close, but now the stupid player won't play it?!?!

Take a video that will play in it , then disect it to find what the crucial ctriteria is -> resolution , codecs for video and audio , audio frequency , bitrates , or anything else I may have missed with VideoInspector (or the other program whose name eludes me)

As I recall , a WMV is technically an avi (just a wrapper) but in reality it isnt , ie even with the right codecs , it has to be wrapped up properly by the encoder or it just makes some hybrid file of it which happily play a la pc but not in a program expecting 100% compliance to a standard .(I`ll be happily corrected on this , its not something I work with but was on the fringes of something I was working with).

Turns out I need a converter with wmv3x that format... I guess autoMK has that, but when i tried it before the audio was out of sync?

ARG, well I used AutoMK and I think I got the audio to sync up this time and WMP11 even transfers it, however now the Player won't play it? It just sits there doing nothing after loading the video?

So what does a video look like (detailwise) that will play in it ? and what differs from that to the ones you are making ?

the videos before I was able to play were from AutoMK and actually used the exact similar or same settings.... except then the audio was not in sync.... however now the videos won't actually play???? Is something wrong with the Gigabeat?

You`ll need to use VideoInspector to remove any problems associated with "similar" or "I think" - the results of `videos that work` and `videos that don`t` , will give you a baseline to work from .
