Hi, i'm new to converting video files, hope someone can help me.

My problem is this, i d/l'ed a tv program from the BBC IPlayer to my pc. The d/l'ed file is a WMV format. I tried to load it into Virtualdub version 1.8.6 but got this error message:

    "asf data object is invalid"

What does this mean & is there an easy way to convert this file to an avi that doesn't involve d/l'ing loads of programs?

Thanks in advance for any help given.

My understanding (I don't live in the UK) is that all BBC programs available through their website are DRMed, so you have to remove the DRM first. FairUse4WM might help. If not, you'll need a streaming media recorder to record the stream as it plays and then you should be able to convert that. Under the Tools section we list some streaming media recorders, but all the good ones cost money.

I've heard rumors that some disreputable people use BitTorrent to obtain non-DRMed files of various types, but we here would never in any way encourage or approve of such behavior and we would say that BitTorrent should only be used for distributing things that don't violate somebody's copyright.

I have ideas, but I'll need to send you a private message. FairUse4WM doesn't always work.
