  1. ok, I'm new at this but i've looked at all the tutorials and tried everything I have found to get this to work. I'm trying to split an avi file into two in preparation for placement on a cd-r. I've done the set both to direct stream copy set the mark in mark out and have split the first file successfully. On the second half however all audio is at least 30 sec. behind the video. I have fully viewed the original 705mb avi, and the 358mb part 1 and all audio is accurately synched throughout the clips. Can anyone help me with the second half?
P.S. I'm using VirtualDub 1.4.10 and I get the vbr error when I first load the avi file...

I'm not sure why you don't just get an oversized CD! Anyway, this is what you can do. Load into Virtualdub. Select Audio>>Full processing mode. Then File>>Save wav. This will extract the audio as an uncompressed wav. It will be ~ 1GB, maybe more. Then select File>>Direct stream copy and Audio>>Full processing mode. Then Audio>>Wav audio, and browse to the wav you have just extracted. Then Audio>>Compression and select something like mp3 128K stereo. If you don't have an mp3 option, you will need to load some mp3 codecs. Either find a link on this site, or in the downlaod area of www.doom9.net Something like Radium MP3 codec 1.2 - mp3 codec is what I mean. Then, File>>Save avi, and choose a new name. This will re-encode the audio at constant bitrate. The file will probably be bigger than before, but since you are splitting to 2 CDs it won't matter. Now you should be able to split without losing sync.
