My Panasonic DVD Recorder ES10 died after not quite two years. It had the typical Power Supply issue. that is apparently a side effect of Panasonic craftsmenship. It is out of warranty and the Repair shop that Panasonic referred me to was going to charge $259 with a $59 deposit and a 15 day turn-around. That was ridiculous considering the machine only cost $189 new and a new version is available for much less than that. Based on other posts the part itself is no more than $4.

Has anyone sucessfully repaired their Recorder or had a repair shop do it for a practical amount?

My ES10 went out completely last year about a month after the warranty expired. I put it in the closet with the intention of someday having it fixed. Early in Feb. I called Panasonic and was told the repair cost and almost chunked the unit. Luckily, I did a search of this site and found a posting by BOB108 dated Oct. 11, 2006 that exactly described my problem.
    See:

I ordered the two capacitors and soldered them in over the weekend. Now I have my unit back in operation thanks to BOB 108's posting. It was a relatively simple 10 or 15 minute procedure that cost me less than $12 for the 2 capacitors + shipping and not the $130 the manufacturer wanted to do this job.
