    Basically i have chinese subtitles in .srt format that wont display correctly and comes up with symbols and random gibberish. If i open it with MS Word, i get an option to encode in GB2312 and then it is readable


    How would i change it so the subtitles are readable?

    You need to use the correct character encoding when decoding or encode as unicode/utf-8.
