  1. I have used GUI for DVDAuthor to create a video_ts folder with everything working correctly on PowerDVD. The DVD includes a 30 second introduction before the menu comes up. I have been using CDBurnerXP but the DVDs it creates can't be read on most standalones. I don't have Nero, so can someone advise of some freeware that will let me burn the DVD.

I have tried using IFOEdit to create an .img file from video_ts.ifo, and DVD Decryptor to burn, but that misses the intro bit and goes straight to the menu. Any other suggestions?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I am authoring the DVDs rather than ripping them.

    Thanks

  2. If the problem is really 'burn', you can use imgtools (classic!) to create an iso file from GfDs VIDEO_TS folder and DVD Decrypter / ImgBurn to burn. But it may be something else...
What is your (permanent) setting for 'Number of frames for still menus'?
As it seems, some standalones have problems if either:
    1 frame only (rare!)
    2...XX frames WITH audio (often)

Therefore try 1 frame if you have menus with audio or ~10 frames without audio. Another possibility for (still) menus with audio is using 'full length encoding' in the menu background settings, or using animated menus (with or without sound).

  3. Borax.

The incompatability manifests itself in the standalone not recognising that it has a DVD in it. There is a warning on CDBurnerXP site about it not writing the UDF/ISO file system, so I suspect that is the problem.

When I look at the files on the DVD I created with DVD Decrypter they are identical to the ones in the GFD Video_ts folder, so I can't understand why it does not behave in the same way. I will email you the .ifo from the burned DVD.

You have been very helpful in the past. Thanks for that.

Ok. Then it is really something in connection with burning and/or filesystem.
You can either use imgtools + imgburn or DVDDecrypter to burn the GfD VIDEO_TS folder or try nero. The nero trial version can still be used after the trial period, but you are restricted to 2x writing speed.

That's the way to do it!

  6. Borax, Mats,

Thanks for the advice. Using ImgTools and Imgburn I have created a DVD that will play on my neighbour's standalone!

A word of warning about ImgTools - when you select the OUTDIR folder as the source, in includes everything under that directory resulting in a iso file that was too big to burn. Cutting and pasting VIDEO_TS to another folder solved this.

    Thanks again.

Yes, that's so. The bright side of that, is that you can add data files to a Video DVD too, like the source images in jpg (or other) format for a DVD Slide show, or...
