I try to add these two video files together but it comes up with an error saying "The segment as a different number of stream".

I'm trying to add the two clips in Virtual Dub. Both files are the same size, 640 x 480. They have the same frame rate. They're both encoded with Xvid.

    Someone help please.

One of them has more audio streams than the other. Find the one with extra (probably only one) streams, kill a stream, then try again.

Sorry for posting twice. How do I get rid of the streams though?

What I mean is clip 1 has no sound but clip 2 does. Is it not joining because clip 2 has sound.

I wanted to join these two clips because if I added them both then they have no sound then I will have to screw about with the audio time. I wanted to add this clip to a already made clip 2.

What will deleting the stream in one of the videos do exactly?

Clip 2 is a video file with hardcoded subs on it. The VBR encoding was off so I ripped the audio and added it to the video in streams. Is there another way of adding the audio and video without adding it to the streams??

I'm confused on why these two files won't join.

  4. M2 Edit Pro will allow you to join edit using m2v video elementary streams only. In this case, you could demux the audio, join the two soundless m2v streams, then add X thousand frames of silence to the audio for the second clip and export that as a WAV, then re-encode it into ac3 using BeSweet.

Alternatively, you could just open up the first m2v in a program like Adobe Premiere and import blocks of digital silence WAV files until you get the correct length for the clip, then export the joined blocks of silence as a single WAV file and encode it into ac3. Then remux the silent ac3 with the first clip, then use womble or m2 Edit Pro or Cuttermaran to join both mpg files, since both will now have elementary audio streams.

The error you're getting is because you're trying to join one mpg which only has an elementary video stream (m2v) with another mpg which has both an elementary audio (ac3) + elementary video stream (m2v). That confuses your video editing software.
