I recently purchased a 50 pack of Ritek Ridata G04 4X DVD-R Media Matte Finish with Ridata Logo in the hub. For some reason they are only burning 1X. I am using Roxio 7 program with a (Plextor burner) but I never had this problem with the discs before. Could it be a bad batch of discs or could my Plextor be going bad. Any info would surely be appreciated. Like I said I have use these discs before and never had this problem..

    Thanks

  2. Riteks used to be good discs, but they have really gotten bad lately. I used to burn riteks with a sony burner, now i have my pioneer 108 and all i burn with it are taiyo yuden discs. I do have a few g04's left, last time i burned some i got some real ugly burns, so i never use them anymore.

  3. Only burning at 1x is a hardware issue and not an issue with the media. Only way it'd be an issue with the media is if they weren't really G04 discs and they actually had some other media code.

Do you have other discs to see if they will burn at normal speeds now?

I just tried a Memorex 8x disc and it still writes at 1x. I guess my Plextor 708a is dying. Anyone else have a Plextor burner then can recommend?

    Thanks again

  6. I figured that'd be the case, like I said burning at 1x is not the fault of the media.

Have you checked to see that your drive is set to DMA mode? Any changes that you've made to your system since you last burned a DVD at normal speeds? There's a lot of threads on the subject here if you do a search.

  8. I'm kinda confused now. So you installed a different firmware before your problems arised, or you just downloaded a new firmware now?

Either way, I doubt it is a firmware issue, it is probably related to your IDE controller drivers/DMA set or not/other drivers changed recently. I'm guessing there's been a change to your system recently that has caused the change, your burner is probably not defective. Search around on here, check to see if DMA is enabled for your DVD burner for starters.

  10. To check if DMA is enabled, go to your control panel-system-hardware tab-device manager-IDE channels. Look under all of your IDE channels, they should all have DMA enabled.

P.S. - put your computer info in your profile, it makes it alot easier for us to help out at times, knowing what hardware/OS you have.

  12. There's your answer. You need to to have DMA enabled, does it allow you to change it?

  14. Uh, not sure what to suggest next, it could be one of several other things now, maybe you need to uninstall your IDE controller drivers, and restart, they should reinstall themselves, with XP anyway. There are many threads on the subject at hand here, a search and some reading will probably provide the answer to your problems.

UPDATE YOUR PROFILE LIKE I SAID BEFORE SO WE KNOW WHAT OPERATING SYSTEM, ETC YOU ARE USING. DON'T TELL ME WHAT OS YOU HAVE, PUT IT IN YOUR PROFILE. THANK YOU

Not around here, they haven't... I still use a lot of these discs here in the UK from SVP and they're fine, along with several other posters. I think the issue with Ritek that some people are reporting must be down to the people they buy them from not storing them correctly somewhere down the line, or some other "localised" problem. If you get on alright with them then keep using them, I say. Speed isn't everything and I don't use TY because I think they're over-priced. While people keep paying that price they're not likely to ever come down much either... dammit !
