  1. first of all my compliments to this fantastic website. Have become quite capable of burning dvd's thanks to this site....
However, recently i have been getting a strange problem.
i tried to dup movie "Kiss the Girls" which is a dvd-5.
Ripped with DVD decrypter and burned the image with same program with no errors whatsoever.
When I play on my Pioneer standalone, it gets stuck after the warning screens. It searches for title 4 and after a while the tray comes out. When I stop the dvd and press menu i get the menu and the movie plays ok. When I press the icon for trailer i don't get anything. This has happened in 3 of the last 8 dvd's i have burnt ( all dvd-5). The other 5 are perfect.
    blank media: creation dvd-r 2.0
    recorder: sony dru-500ax firmware: 2.0c
    os: windows xp (no sp1)

    Please advise
    thanks

Mighty rip the movie to files then run ifoedit, open all the ifos at the same time and click Get VTS sectors. Then burn those files. I've found that while decrypter generally does a great job sometimes it will not put things exactly right. (remember its making changes when it rips, removie puops and such) Ifoedit then burn usually fixes it.

This could also be caused by bad media. So far, I've had no problems at all using Verbatim 2X or Ritek G03s in my Pioneer A05. The disks play all the way through. You will of course pay a premium for the media, however having zero problems is also a plus...

    2 things....

I always have better luck ripping in file mode then using IFOedit (just is case if for no other reason) to get rid of the odd languages and subtitles than I ever do ripping in ISO read mode as a matter of fact, I always rip in file mode.

2nd-if you are ripping in ISO mode then download Daemon tools from www.doom9.net, it allows you to mount a "virtual" DVD drive, which basically means you can check the ISO file to make sure it does what it is suppose to before you burn it. Daemon Tools has saved me many DVD-R discs. If there is a problem you can use Decrypter to rip from the virtual drive and then you can use IFOedit to straighten things back out.

I only use file mode if I'm ripping a dual layer disk and you need only the movie and you want to get rid of the extras. Then, the video is probably only to be 4 Gig or so and that can usually be burned directly to disk without re-encoding. I've successfully used some of the other guides on this site to get around the 4.36 Gig limit by re-encoding the video which I then burn to a Verbatim DVD-RW for testing and then burn to DVD-R after I check everything. You can also display an ISO with Alcohol 120% by making a virtual drive, mounting the ISO in that and then playing it with PowerDVD. Works very well for me...

Maybe I'm just lucky but I have yet to run into all these problems people report with ISOs and IFOs. I just follow the guides and no problems at all. Now, if only I could go the capture/encode/author/burn route with as few problems...
