What's the best internal dvd player for dvd-r?

I'm after some info chaps:-
what is the best PC DVD player for playing DVD-R backups?

I currently own a Lite on 16X ide drive but this will not read DVD-R movies written on my sony dru 500xl

Any help would me much appreciated.

Perhaps, you should try a +R disk. Here is the compatibility chart for DVD+R on DVD-ROMs:

I just bought a Pioneer DVD-119 and it plays everything I've written on my Sony DRU-500AX. I tried all 4 formats; DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW. All 4 dvd's were authored using Sonic MyDVD.
This DVD-Rom rips at around 8x (peak) for a DVD-9 on my system. It even played a data DVD that had a bunch of HTML slide shows that my Samsung DVD-Rom couldn't read.

I've got to believe your Writer and the DRU-500ax are very similar. I also want to note that I used TDK media. When I tried memorex it failed on every player I tried.
