A laptop DVD RW burner speed is usually 8x. Is it possible to replace it with the different speed internal DVD burner such as lower 4x or higher 16x or the system only supports the original DVD burner speed? Thanks for your answer.

the reason for the 8x in laptops is 2 fold
power consumption(eats up a laptop battery)
heat(heat at 16x aint too good for a laptop...or any heat for that matter)
i've nvr heard of one being replaced for a 16x...nvr even knew or known for one to exist..you can buy an external writer..USB -
A third reason those slim type drives are speed limited is they use tiny little parts that can't take the strain of higher speeds.
