    My configuration:
ADVC-100, ADS Pyro Firewire PCI card, WIN2K, Scenalyzer (for capturing), "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR" Codec, TMPGEnc+/MainConcept for SVCD (MPEG2) encoding, Nero 5.5.9.14 (for SVCD authoring).

    1. I use Scenalyzer to capture old (but good quality) Hi8 video tapes.
    2. Excellent DV AVI type 1 results.
    3. I then encode them into SVCD (using either TMPGEnc+ or MainConcept standalone)
    4. Excellent results when MPEG2 are replayed with WinDVD.
    5. Author (burn) the MPEG2 into SVCD with Nero.
    6. Terrible (GRAINY) results when SVCD is replayed on a standard SVCD compliant DVD player.

(side note - for some reason WinDVD can't replay the authored SVCD...why ?)

What is the reason for (6) above ?
    TIA - roli

Sounds like Nero might be re-encoding your video. Try using VCDEasy and see if that improves things. Or burn your media more slowly (4x usually works well for me).

  3. You might want to try some anti-noise filters (TMPGEnc's is really good from my experience). I used to have this problem with captured video, and the anti-noise filters really helped. Don't go crazy with them, though; if the anti-noise filter is set too high, you can lose some detail/sharpness. This increases your encoding time incredibly, though.
