What is the best way for getting my recorded shows into the computer. Will I need a capture card? I once tried using my MiniDV camera, but I could not get audio (don't know why).

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm unfamiliar with an TIVO, so I can't reccomend getting an capture card until I know a little more about it. Now I thought an TIVO has something like an Macro vision copyright feature that prevents it from sending the recorded show to any thing but anouther TIVO without scrambiling it. Check out either the TIVO websight community elsewhere I heard about on The Screen Savers or go directly to www.techtv.com/thescreensavers and enter TIVO to review with what they have answered questions to in the past about that subject.
Or just go to techtv.com and enter TIVO on all locations of the web sight to get more results if nothing much turns up much about what your looking for at just the screen savers show.

  3. I've been capping from my TIVO for the past two years using an ATI AIW 128 Pro. There is no problem with MacroVision or any other copy protection for that matter. Be sure to use the S-video output instead of the composite, it REALLY makes a difference in the final quality.

  4. Or use the Linux operating system and stick your HDD from your TiVo directly into your PC and grab the original MPEG2 stream.

  5. If you already have a Mini-DV camera with analog pass-thru, then you have what you need (plus a firewire port on yur PC). I do this all the time using a Canon ZR-40.

Make sure that you have the audio out of the Tivo (red/white RCA connectors) connected to you Vid-Cam, even if you are using the S-video connection.
