DivX to DVD; DVD plays at 2x w/distorted or no sound

I have an AVI file I am trying to put on a DVD. I convert it with the latest TMpgEnc and rip the audio with virtuadub. TMpgEnc produces an .M2V file and a large .WAV file. The .M2V file has no sound but plays fine. I have tried to author the files to DVD with IFOEDIT. I burned the result to a DVD and it plays at about 2x on my Sony 715. I played these same files from my hard drive with WinDVD and they also played at 2x.

I have used both the WAV file from Virtuadub and the one TMpgEnc creates, sound is either not there or just static. My M2V and WAV files play fine when played independently.

What should I be using for M2V to VOB conversion?

i have this exact question and have been trying search the forums for about 2 hours today. the only thing i can figure is to use ulead movie factory 2. haven't tried it yet, but will when i get home.
