I recently copied onto my HDD a doco from the Rialto Channel and saved it in .MPG format.

When I play back the file using VLC Media Player, there is a sound track

However, once I have edited the file using TMPGEnc DVD Author and then use DVD Shrink and burn onto a DVD, there is no sound

What am I doing wrong, and how do I correct this mess??

I'm sure that I have followed the same procedure that I usually take when I edit and burn all my Formula One races that I have captured onto my HDD.

First off, dvd shrink does NOT burn, it does however use either Nero or DVD Decrypter to burn.

After doing all this does it play with sound on your PC BEFORE burning it to a dvdr ?

Post a screen shot of one of the vobs using Gspot from the disc/files that do not have sound.

My guess is something is being changed when running it through TDA as you can change how it encodes the audio.

But with the all the specific information you have NOT given it's basically all a guess.......

    Thanks for your reply.

I get sound if I open the file on my HDD with VLC. I get sound off the DVD (that I burnt with Nero) also using VLC.

I get no sound if I use any other player on my PC, nor off my Sony DVD Recorder/Player that is plugged into my Sony Bravia TV.

I have attached, hopefully, a screen shot from Gspot of the file in question.

Is this your original file (downloaded) or one you processed.
GSpot show no audio in that file.
VLC support all kind of sound, DVD will not.
Do you have a preview in DVD Author? If so try to play it there. The sound could be format Author is not supporting.
Did you get any warning when importing file into Author?

    I give up

The file is my original file. I had captured the doco using my WinFast TV2000XP capture card, just like I have a hundred times before, or at least I think I used the correct settings

When I hover the mouse over the file in Windows Explorer, it displays no audio details, unlike on my other files.

I think that I might have "stuffed up" when I configured the recording details for this particular doco.

When I say I give up, it is no real problem. The doco will be screened another 3 times in December. I will get it right during one of those screenings - I hope

    Thanks for all your help.
