    Hi,
My DVD can play VCDs(NOT SVCDs). My DVD supports 5.1ch surround.

Is there a way to rip a DVD and make it into a VCD with some surround or at least stereo support?

    Thanks in advance !

    P.S.

Normally if you use DVD2AVI to convert the audio to WAV or extract the AC3 and use besweet to convert it will downmix Dolby 5.1 to Dolby Surround or Dolby Surround 2. If your stereo has a Prologic/Prologic II decoder you'll get some basic surround sound.

Of course, if your DVD has a Dolby Surround 2-channel audio track that would probably be a little better to use than a downmixed 5.1 track, since it's already been professionally done. Either way, though, Dolby Surround encodes the center and back channels in to 2-channel stereo, so it should work for your VCDs.

Well, let me know if I'm doing the right thing here.
    I rip with DVD Decrypter.
Then I extract the avi and a .d2v file with DVD2AVI.
Then I use TMPGEnc to make 1 big VCD file.
Then I use vobsub to extract the subtitles.
Then I use TMPGEnc again to filter in the subs and recreate two best fitting .mpg (VCD) files for two700mb CDs.

Is this the right way to get the best surround compatibility?
Should I use some kind of option in DVD2AVI when I extract the .avi file?
Should I also choose some kind of option in TMPGEnc for the audio?

    Thanks.

That sounds wrong on a lot of levels. You don't actually need a real avi file, and you shouldn't be running the file through tmpgenc twice.

Rip the DVD, so you get a bunch of vob files.
    Use DVD2AVI to create a .d2v and a .wav (select Audio->Dolby Digital->Decode)
Add subtitles, refer to this guide: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/87065.php
Load your VirtualDub or avisynth frameserving file in tmpgenc as the video source, and load the .wav file as the audio source. If you're not adding any subtitles you can open the .d2v file directly in tmpgenc.
