  1. I have sony, latest 5.5.9.17.1 Nero and update firmware 1.0d
Since i updated from nero .14 and 1.0c i can't close any dvd+r disks in nero. it fails at very end saying "error closing disk". i tried 2 different dv+r brands (verbatim and memorex) which were working perfect with .14 and original firmware. dvd-r's working ok. same dvd+r's working fine in recordnow max.

i'm pretty sure this problem came after firmware upgrade and was wondering if anybody else ran into the same problem with Nero ??

the problem was caused by nero 5.5.9.17.1 not the firmware. i even have had that problem with the firmware 1c. but their previous 5.5.9.17 didnt cause this problem. luckily i saved the setup. if u tell me where to put this file i will give it to u and you can try it.

  5. Thanx for the tip rur! I downgraded nero .17.1 to original .17 and worked fine. i was able to close session on my coasters also and get them working. heh, so much to follow for latest updates, damn Nero.

Updated RecordNow Max 4.5 is working fine, i agree, but since nero
was first with their upgrade i was kept using it.

dvd-r's were ok, problem was just with dvd+r

Also,Lux,let me point out that Verbatim +R's made before Sept.2002 were
subject to problems in closing their sessions before that Nero upgrade was issued. I had problems, but after the upgrade, the problems like a lot of my money,disappeared....

  7. Lux, how did you manage to close the session on your coaster? I have a 5.5.9.17.1 coaster I'd like to close too. Is it an option in nero somewhere?
Anyone know where I can get 5.5.9.17 (no .1)?

  8. i did ftp search ( e.g. filesearch.ru) and found couple mirrors having original .17 (size should be bigger then .17.1). Here is one example
    ftp://ftp.freenet.de/pub/.disk0/filepilot/windows/cd-brenner/Nero55917.exe

To close coaster, put it in, run Nero and choose new DVD ISO compilation.
Then add empty file (create 0 kb size file in notepad for example) to it.
After that just press Record. that will automatically close previous session and you should get your disk back that was mentioned on doom9 forum i beleive.

I had the exact same problem, error in finalizing Memorex DVD+R. I used your link and updated with 5.5.9.17.0 (not.01) and I brought back to life 4 Coasters. What's amazing is that 2 of the Coasters where made with Pinnacle Studio8 which gave me no error but I could not play DVD.
    -Thanks Again

  12. i also noticed that just updated DVDDecrypter 3.1.4 has new features to
close disk/session/track, so it might work as well on those dvd+r coasters.
it also says it has improved dvd+r recording. (it didn't work well for me on sony and dvd+r's before, same closing session error)

  15. My bad. Didnt have the power connector in the back of my drive. It see`s it ok now...

My system is in bits all over the place trying to find out whats stopping this sony drive from working.
I had XP installed, but it refused to burn dvd-r media. As soon as i loaded up the software, and told it to burn both the software and the drive would hang. Luckily enough, it hung before it started to burn, the furthest it would get would be to cache the files. However, if i turned it fomr UDMA into PIO, it would burn the dvd-r, but only as a coaster.

So, a clean install of 98se i thought might do the trick. WRONG. Someone then told me to up my PSU supply, so i took out my 300watt and put in a 350watt. Now my system is slow as hell. Im at a total loss and dont know what to do next. I cant get any support anywhere. It wouldnt be so bad if i could find someone with the same problem as myself.
Ive had the hdd`s as pri mas and pri slave, with the sony as sec master.
Then i tried the sony as pri slave to my c:\ as pri master, but to no avail.
    Hardware as follows.

Epox 8KTA mobo (via 133 chipset), Athlon t.bird 800mhz, GEforce2 ultra, SB live card, 2 X 20 gig HDD, nic card, pci exhaust fan, chasis fan.

I have the latest via drivers, latest BIOS, and upgraded the sony firmware.

Tried Sony suport, with detailed information. No reply as of yet.

By slow, i mean things like scrolling the screen down in I.E is jerky, changing windows takes a few seconds etc. This happened when i changed to PIO in XP from UDMA. Now im running 98se its like it permanently. Takes 20 mins to transfer a cd of data (not dvd) over to my c:\ , and unpacking a .rar archive, or a .iso takes around 30 mins.

  19. This is killing me! dont know what to do next my recordings used to play fine in my set top but as of the update of nero they no longer play
I have followed all the tips I can find but still no luck, my disks must be finalised as when i try to writ the end file as stated above i am told that the disk can no longer be writen to I now have this problem with all burning software like record now max I am coming to the conclusion that since a writer firmware update my system no longer works

Everyone should know that Nero is part of the DVD-R alliance and is purposely messing up the DVD+R DVD writes.

  23. Hi!

I was having probs with nero 5.5.10.0 and discussed this in the following thread:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=127624&start=40&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

someone posted to look at this thread!

I have downgraded to 5.5.9.17 version and everything works great again. I have not tested a dvd+r yet but I see I have the correct version now and will keep it until ahead comes with a working update!

    Sabrina!

PS: Also noticed that the (s)vcd menus are screwed up on 5.5.10.0 with strange picture placing and boxes around the letters. 5.5.9.17 corrected this problem again! stick to this version and you don't end up with coasters!

I've read all the posts in this thread and I've downloaded Nero 5.5.9.17.? from the link suggested. I can't see any difference. After installing it, it has the exact same date as the 5.5.9.17 that I had, and both of them are failing.

I'm suspecting that there are other problem. For the last week I've been using 4 different DVD+RW disks to test all the versions of software in Nero, and I even went back to the CD version that came with my drive, which was 5.5.9.8. That version crashed my system by trashing a .dll file in the middle of and erase. AFter restarting, I went back to 5.5.9.17 and did and erase of the same disk, and thought it went OK. I've tried so many rips, using just about everything, and buring in Nero, I believe that all 4 of my DVD+RW are not functioning anymore.

I tried one more "Clean" way, by just using Decryptor to rip a very small DVD in ISO mode. That went OK, then I tried to "Write" it with Decryptor, but it said that my DVD+RW was not empty and would not proceed. Nero said it was empty so I tried to get Nero to write an ISO file. It refused saying that the file was over 2 GB and ISO files are not allowed that big,... suggested I use UDF. Started to write in UDF mode and then Nero said,... Hey,.. this disk is not empty, do you want to continue. I went ahead and wrote the file. Of course it failed to work in PowerDVD, saying "Error,... Unknow file Format" Now all of my DVD+RW disk say the same thing. If I erase them in Nero, they look empty,... but Decryptor says they are not.

Has anyone come up with any other way of verifying which version of Nero is installed. In the properties of Nero.exe, my file is created August 06, 3:41:02 PM. If they made an update to anything, they had to create a different time stamp. I know Donpedro post his version and people that have posted in this thread say they have a version that is working. But is this just a problem with DVD+RW disk and Nero or is it something else.

    1. How do you author that your file is more them 2GB ?

    2. The date that you need to look for is Modified Date. If you right-click on file and select Properties, you can see 3 dates. Created, Modified and Accessed. Look for Modified.

Donpedro, thanks for getting back to me. I just looked at the modified date and it is October 28, 2002, 1:59:26 PM. I thought the modified date was the last time it was transferred or copied,... not created.

Anyway, does this date check with yours as far as being 5.5.9.17.0?

Also, I did not author at all. I did a rip in Decryptor in ISO mode and it creates one .iso file that is 2.2 GB. Several people have suggested that Decryptor is the quickest and easyist way to copy a DVD5 disk to another DVD disk. There is no authoring,... just rip to ISO and use Decryptor to Write the ISO to a DVD. The only problem I'm having is that I tried to do the write onto a DVD+RW and I now believe that Decryptor does not support that, even though my drive does. Decryptor keeps telling me the disk is "Not Empty". I've erased it three different ways, in Nero, EasyCD creator, and with REcordnowMax. Doesn't matter, Decryptor still says the disk is not empty and won't write the ISO file. So I tried to write the ISO file will Nero, and it did it, but when I try and play it in anything, I get nothing but error. PowerDVD says "Unknow File Format" error 8390000.

I've also just downloaded the demo version of REcordnowMax and when I try and use if for DVD functions, I can find nothing in the controls or in the help menu that even mention DVD. All I can find is Global Image function. which I guess is something like reading and writing in ISO format, but how would anyone know, it dosn't say anything about DVD.
At their web site the talk about supporting DVD+RW but I can not find one word anywhere in there software that even mentions DVD. You would think if it really works there would be some mention on how to do it.

I also went to the InstandCD/DVD web site and I found nothing about support for DVD+RW,

Last question. has anyone ever heard of a problem of erasing a DVD+RW, even if it is recorded by defective software????

    Thanks in advance.

  27. Yes, you have 5.5.9.17.0.

Here is what you need to do with DVD Decrypter. This will work if your original DVD is less then 4.37GB.

    1. Put DVD in drive and Start Decrypter (my version is 3.1.3.0 )
    2. My settings ... X=checked, O=uncheked
General (Remove Macrovision X, Detect Mastering Errors O)
File Mode (Merge VOB Files O, Multiple Angle Pr. O)
    3. Select in menu Mode / File
    4. Select all files (menu Edit / Select All )
    5. Hit Decrypt button

This will create VIDEO_TS directory with everythink that was on DVD. Burn that dir with any software.

In case of Nero I use Video-DVD and then I just grab all files from VIDEO_TS dir and move them to Nero's VIDEO_TS dir. Try is and let me know.

Have you contacted the support people at Ahead to report the problem with Nero. If they don't know there's a problem they can't fix it!

    The address is techsupport@nero.com

    DonPedro,

Thanks for confirming my Nero version. I have tried your process about a dozen times and each time it has failed. I have always tried to use a DVD+RW disk that had failed before, and erased it in Nero. Nero would always say it was empty and burn the new one. Each time it would fail. I've used two different media types, Memorex and the DVD+RW disk that came from AOPEN with the drive. All the same results.

I'm hoping that getting back to 5.5.9.17.0 will fix the problem. I was successful awhile back, but I don't rememeber what version I was using. I burn several DVD+R disk and one DVD+RW disk from TDK that have worked fine in all my players and one at my daughters house. Right now I can't figure out why Decryptor is telling me a disk is NOT EMpty, when I just erased it in Nero. My version of Decryptor is 3.1.4. Can you confirm that your version of Decryptor can see a DVD+RW disk that has been erased and say that it is empty. You have to go into ISO mode, with a data set ready to record and select ISO-Write. At the bottom of the screen it will tell you about the media in your recorder.

I've also been trying RecordnowMax and have had not luch at all. Can't get it to do anything.
    Thanks again.
