  1. Hi everyone!

I am at MY WITS END with this problem. I am trying to convert a couple of AVI files using either Nerovision express or VSO DIvX To DVD.

I have converted many AVI's before using these but for some reason, everytime I try and open up the AVI file in either of these programs (and a few others I have tried as well) it just shuts down the program.

Can anyone tell me what is going on? As I say, i've used these programs before to convert to VOB and IFO etc, but with the two AVI's in particular, it just shuts down as soon as I open the files in the program!

Any help would be appreciated sooooo much!

    Thanks everyone!

Drop the avi into gspot and tell us the exact details of the AVI (framerate, framesize, codec, audio format etc.) .. could be almost anything causing the problem.

To take a wild guess, based on assumption and very little information, I would say you have corrupt codecs. Installed any codec packs ? Can you play the files back in WMP ?

Follow Mr Troll's advice and g-spot the file, then try actually playing it back.

You might also try loading it virtualdub or avi demux, seeing if you get any errors, and doing a direct stream copy of the file.

  4. Mr Troll, Thank you! I will try that when I get home this evening and let you know what it says. Thanks again!

Gunslinger, the files play on my system fine, in both WMP and DivX Player, its so wierd!

I will drop the two AVI files into GSpot and let you know what happens!

Not really. That a video file is OK for playback, doesn't imply that it's also good as source material for further conversions. Players are made to be error tolerant. Encoders need each and every frame to be in good shape.

  6. Hi again!

ok, I tried opening the files in gspot and the program just crashed, shut down, just like the others! Also, i opened the files in virtualdub and it crashed with the error message..
