  1. I was just wondering what exactly is the difference between mpeg1 and mpeg2. I want to burn movies to cd-r, but I'd like to know whether to use mpeg1 or 2. I'm planning on capturing vhs to 352x240 (anything taller gets interlaced). 352x240 is acceptable quality for me. I'm trying to keep the bitrate low to fit 2 hours on a cdr. My dvd player can play non-standard vcds/svcds, so compatibility's not a problem.

My question is will I get better quality with mpeg2 or with mpeg1, at the same bitrate and resolution? My guess is mpeg2, but I want to be 100% sure.

  2. The quality will be the same for the same bitrate and resolution. The main advantage of mpeg2 is that it supports interlaced video. For your requirements, use mpeg1
