My question in a nutshell is:

I want to quickly convert mpeg 1 audio to mpeg 2 (dvd complient).

I have a bunch of mpeg1 videos (all vcd complient), and usualy when I want to burn them on a dvd I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to do it. It work's great, it just resamples the audio to 48000 hz, from 44100 hz. Even on a dualcore that can take a bit of time. So, what software out there will let me seperate the video from the audio on my mpeg 1's and transcode them to 48000 from the default 44100 format, then remux them back into a new mpeg that would be quickly dvd complient.

Rather than using TMPGEnc to create the dvd, then instead of burning it, converting the vob's to psudo-mpeg2's. (this question make any sense?)

Yes, it works with tmpgenc dvd author. What I'm wanting to do is take some of my vcd-mpeg1's and pre-prep them to be dvd compliant, which is my understanding would be changing the audio from 44100 to 48000. Then when I'm ready to make a dvd, I'd just have to select them, and dvd author won't need to re-encode the audio. What I suspect is, by pre-encoding the audio to dvd complient, it would speed up the dvd process, since dvd author would think it's already dealing with mpeg2 files. I tried doing it with BeLight/BeSweet, but I might have configured something wrong, since when I brought up the .mpv and new .mp2, it was showing me the .mp2 was still 44100 bit rate. This is not a life or death issue, but something I just want to screw with. Sometimes you just want to try something different. I had gotten into mpeg1's early on, since at the time there really wasn't anything to play divx on. And mpeg1's took up less space on the HD. And also i like putting on 6-7 episode of some show like 'Being Human' on one dvd for later viewing.

And Baldrick, thanks for replying, your always good at giving good advice.

You can use avitoac3 to encode the audio from your mpg's to dvd compliant ac3. It will batch convert as well as process single files. Then when you go to author your dvd's you can just use the newly created ac3 files for your audio.
