  1. How do you make Sony drive to read 8x DVD ???

I used Nero's CD Speed 1.02 for testing and here are results.

    Video DVD 2 layers = 2x
    DVD-RW Data = 2x
    Interactive DVD = 2x

One more question... what is actualy "Interactive DVD" ? I can play it on PC but not in Standalone players. It has VIDEO_TS folder with VTS files.

  3. Is it more like 2x cup ? Were you able to get more then 2x ? If yes, how ?

When I test my DVD-ROM it goes from 3.8x to almost 8x. So ut is changing. With Sony it stays at 2x during all test. Shouldn't speed change based on where on disk it is ?

  4. AFAIK it's locked to 2x for CSS-encrypted DVD's as well as DVD±RW. DVD±R (data) should be read @ 4x (with 1.0f firmware) and a single layer DVD-ROM (data) should be read @ 8x (max).

    Yes, see:

(skip down to Data DVD test)

Also, with newer firmware, I posted results for reading from
    the various recordable media:
