I justed wanted to let everyone know about the poor customer service and product support I have recieved from Mintek.
I own a Mintek 1600 that is less than a year old. Recently, I purchased a Sony DRX500UL burner. I have burned DV media from my camcorder, DVD backups and downloaded video to 4 different brands of DVD media. I have tried +R, -R, and +RW. Every single one I have burned will work in 4 different brands of DVD players which proves that the burned DVDs are working.
Now for the complaint...None of these DVDs will play in the Mintek 1600 that I own. I have researched this model on the Internet and all sources I have found that at minimum that this model plays DVD +R without any problem. Remember that I have tried 4 different brands of DVD media and the +R/-R/+RW version of each!
I contacted Mintek and was told that there was nothing that they could do. Even though the above information points to a device that is not working properly, they never offered any solution. They simply quoted company policy that their product was never "advertised" to work on anything but commercially produced DVDs. I got this same lame excuse from their Tech Support and one of their company VPs. I also had sent them an email via their company web site 3 days ago but never received a response.
I highly recommend that you do not purchase their products due to poor quality and poor customer support.

This replay is for the person that suggested that I "check my facts" before making this post.
I totally agreee...On this very website, under the DVD Players compatibility section, 11 people reported that the Mintek 1600 would work with at least either +R, -R, or +RW.
Now I can go around the try the DVDs that I burned in other Minteks or I can simply go with what other Mintek users have reported with those formats. -
I own a Mintek 2580 for about a year and never had problem to play anything. It can even play mpeg2 files (not authored). I tested -R,-RW,+RW and so far no problems. Last one is +R disk...
As far as your complain goes.... Who does have a good support ?You can read a lot of stories here about no responce or poor responce from support for almost any product....
BTW... Mintek was very cheap player... maybe you can expect same as from cheap media...
I almost forgot... When they had som issue with firmware and I conatcted them by email, they sent me new firmware CDs for free. So... I don't know. They are fine for me so far.
