  4. This may be too elementary so sorry if this does not help.

    1) Are you sure the *.AVi file you are encoding has a good audio track. If you captured without the LINE IN selected for you recording sound settings then you will hear the sound while capture but you will not be capturing the sound for real.

    2) If the item 1 is not the problem maybe try stripping out the audio to a *.wav and see if that plays OK. Use a tool that will allow you to strip out the audio from a *.AVI I just don't know what tool does this. Maybe the sound track is messed up before encoding and its not the encoding.

    Just a thought

After converting a .mov quicktime to mpeg1 in TMPGenc which worked fine , I converted that to mpeg2 , and that file had no sound either . With that I just remultiplexed it with the mpeg2 video , added the mpeg1 file and deleted out the mpeg1 video off the list - then multiplexed it (within TMPGenc), which worked , I still don`t know why it didn`t work straight away though .
You could as a work-around click on audio only (on stream type)then load the avi file - then in the first menu , select "Output To File" and select Wave from the submenu , then save it . Then code the file using the wav file as your source for audio , if that doesn`t work then rip the wave out with Virtualdub and use that (like hardwork12 suggested).
