  1. Hi - I own a pioneer dvr-a03 dvd burner (aka superdrive) and I have a copy of dvd studio pro. theoretically I should be able to burn dvds now - but the darn dvd studio will only install on a G4 system. I don't really want to

Does anyone know a workaround ? I'v read several forums where a patch was mentioned.

    thanks alot

  2. I'm pretty sure that although the installer checks for a G4, the software itself doesn't. As I understand it, if you install it on a G4 and then copy the resulting folder onto your G3 it will run. I have a G3 machine which I've seen it start up on, so I'm pretty sure it will work at least this far.

One thing I'd be cautious of, though, is that I think the MPEG2 converter that comes with it (Apple's) runs only on a G4, so you might wind up having put together a movie and then have no way to convert it properly to MPEG2. I assume that it is possible to use other plug-ins; presumably Heuris' MPEG Power Pro plugin will allow you to do the same thing Apple's would (in fact, probably with better quality), but this could set you back quite a bit financially (and Heuris does a better job than most at copy-protection; MPP requires a hardware dongle I believe).

Maybe I'm wrong about the Apple MPEG2 exporter, but I seem to recall trying it myself (not through DVD Studio Pro, just through Quicktime) and seeing a "you don't have a G4" error message. Maybe someone with actual experience will followup this reply.

    Hi

Install DVD Studio Pro on a G4, Remove the Quicktime folder in the DVD Studio Pro folder, then burn a copy of the DVD Studio Pro folder. drag this folder to your application folder on your G3, dobbel click DVD Studio Pro, Voila.

When you install DVD SP on a G4, Quickime put a MPEG 2 extension in your extension folder, this exstension convert DV.etc. in Quicktime to mpeg2 Itīs only run on a G4. Maybe there is a patch for it?
