How does dvdr compare to an actual dvd? Can the video and sound quality really be duplicated exactly? For those of you who have purchased dvd writers, is it worth it?

    sometimes the quality is 100%!

sometimes you have to re-encode the movie to fit it in one DVD-R but if you do it with CCE you have absolutely great quality movie(99.999% of original quality... maybe not that much but close 8) ).

I have now done more than 50 movie's in one month! So YES it is worth it

CCE=Cinema Craft Encoder , one more question, how long does it take you to do a movie? -Setup Time-? -Actual Conversion Time-?

first you have to rip the dvd -> 12 - 45 min (16X dvd read speed is nice)

with CCE 2.5 I can get 1.4-1.5 realtime encoding speeds... it up to you how many passes you want to do... for example if you have 2 hour movie and you are using CCE with 4 passes then it takes about 6-7 hours to encode...

then you have author it with DVDmaestro (or other) it takes about 30 min... and then burning 1X speed takes 1 hour and 2X speed takes 30 min

so its about 8-10 hours job.... but it's nice to encode when sleeping

    Zzzzzzzzz

well summed up but I might add that 2 pass on CCE is very good quality too so (if you cannot wait or prefer to sleep in silence).

Oh... and don't forget, many discs are single layer, or small enough to have unwanted material stripped out, therefore NO loss in quality.

Is it worth it? To me, definitely. Even if my writer broke tomorrow, I would get another by the end of the week.
