  2. tmpeg to convert to mpeg2(pal)
    but i get jittery playback
Waht is the framerate of the original. A lot of the VCD's around are encoded in NTSC framerate which is 29.97fps.Some are NTSCfilm at 23.97fps. Converting these to PAL at 25fps by simply re-encoding in Tmpgenc will cause jittery playbacl.

If 29.97 fps, just convert the audio to 48khz, re-emux and author. If the mpeg is 23.97fps I am not sure what is the best way to get it to 29.97fps. I know 3:2 pulldown is the answer but am not sure how to apply it without re-encoding.

Don't worry about it being NTSC. All european DVD players will play them. You either set the player to output PAL-60 or NTSC. Your TV should accept one of thes if not both, unless it is VERY old.

Also, make sure you set the "MAX number of frames in GOP" to 18 (NTSC) or 15 (PAL) to be fully compliant along with 48000Hz audio frequency.

Hope That Helps you, canny!!! :P

VCD is mpeg1 and can be imported into DVD without re-encodeing to mpeg2. Mpeg1 is part of DVD standard.

But which disk, the ones you converted as described inyour firts post? If so it won't matter what setting you have your DVD player on, you have already done the damage converting from NTSC to PAL as you described. Re-encode in NTSC if the original AVI is 23.97 or 29.97 fps. Thats how to fix the problem.
