  1. Hi,

Kindly advice me about converting a dvd into a vcd file.Subsequently i would like to join the resulting mpeg1 file with another file for a final vcd.

    Thanks in advance.

you can rip the dvd to your hard drive, then use vob2mpeg to convert to mpeg-2, then you would have to re-encode down to mpeg-1. Out of curiosity, why are you trying to do this?

DVDx will go direct from a DVD to VCD as will Easy VCD

Not sure how either work with modern protection systems on DVDs

If you Rip to your Hard Drive and use VOB2MPEG then Womble do a couple of
programs that will allow you to join files together and save the result as a VCD
compliant MPEG1 stream, although I am sure there are many other
editors that will do this as well.

Not sure what you are hoping to achieve tho' since the drop in quality compared
to DVD quality MPEG2 is considerable
