I am getting a similar error from two different CD burning software, VCDEasy and Ulead Movie Factory. The error does not recognize the CD as blank -- which of course it is. There does not appear to be a problem recognizing my hardware though.

I have Roxio Easy CD Creator as my usual burning software and it works fine.

Does the CD need to be formatted somehow so it can be recognized?

  2. For a CD-R to be "blank" it has to be the OPPOSITE to what you just said. It must not be formatted.

Are you certain that Easy CD Creator hasn't formatted your CD-R discs for packet writing?

    Regards.

I am pretty sure that I didn't try formatting until after I got the error a few times. But somebody else suggested that maybe there was something wrong with my disk. I am embarassed to say that, though I tried almost everything else several times, I only tried one CD. I'll give that a shot when I get home -- and make sure it is not formatted.

It worked! I tried another blank CD from the same pack and it burned just fine. I have no idea why one disk was different from another but I guess the hardware/software can be pretty finicky.
