I installed a new graphics card w/ proper drivers last week. After tweaking with the settings everything worked fine. I could see video files perfectly fine and play games fine. Earlier today, I installed Battlefield 2 Demo. It installed fine and I restarted my computer. After restarting I started playing the game and it worked fine. I just finished playing and so Exited the game. I went to CNN.com to view some streaming video, and I couldn't see any video. The video box was just black. I opened a video file on my computer and it was the same result. I tried playing the file in VLC Media Player and that didn't help at all. Every time, the audio works normally, but there is no video.

I'm wondering if something happened with DirectX when I installed BF2. I'm not too familiar with DirectX. I don't even know exactly what it does.

    The Files I tried playing:
    CNN.com Streaming Video
    Avi files
    WMV Files
VOB Files in a video_ts folder.

What do I need to do to fix this problem???

Might be video overlay settings also. Go to 'Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Troubleshoot'. Move the slider down to about 1/3 and try it again. If that works, you may need to get out your video card manual and look for 'Overlay'.

    And welcome to our forums.

Wow. Thanks. I had to put it on the 3rd notch from the left. So, now I just have to go to ATI and see what they have to say about this?

But, how could my graphics card just spontaneously stop displaying video?

Probably that game changed your video card settings and didn't change them back. More overlay info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardware_overlay

The solution varies by video card. Some software players, like VLC, allow you to change the overlay program settings for playback. Usually overlay problems occur with external displays, such as PC video shown on a TV or a external monitor. As I understand it, changing the acceleration is a fix, but not a cure.
