I was wondering is rencoding needed to change the DAR(direct aspect ratio) of an mpeg 2 file or is there another way'?

I have a load of cvds ready for conversion to dvd but most are anamorphic but the sapect ratio is 4:3 This means I have to select widescreen on my tele myself.

Whjen I convert to dvd can I make them anamorphic without reencoding?

    Help greatly appreciated.

No reencoding is required. You can change aspect ratio with some mpeg tools and also set anamorphic in the authoring tools.

essentially, have you tried using these two utilities yet?:
    DvdPatcher http://mitglied.lycos.de/dvdpatcher/
    ReStream http://shh.dvdboard.de/

    -s.

Pulldown.exe will allow you to change the DAR on an MPEG, among other things. You can get a copy installed with DVD2SVCD (see the TOOLS section on the left), or do a search on GOOGLE for PULLDOWN.EXE if you don't want to download the whole DVD2SVCD package.

There's a GUI for it available too, but I can't recall where I found mine.
